CHAPTER 3

Chapter 3 3:1-4

(konotabi wa) (mon no uchi yori) (tachimono o)
(hayaku isoide) (toriharai seyo)                                     1

This time, from within the gate, the building,

quickly hurry, to remove it.

*talking about the Nakayama Residence

(sukiyaka ni) (souji shitateta) (koto naraba)
(nawamune isogi) (tanomi iru zo ya)                           2

Thoroughly the clearing is done. If this occurs,

roping (the grounds) quickly, I request one will need.

(shinjitsu ni) (souji o shitaru) (sono nochi wa)
(Kami ichijou de) (kokoro isamuru)                              3

For the pure mind, if the sweeping is done. That afterwards,

*sweeping of the mind of dusts of negative thoughts

you will be one with God, and your mind will be spirited.

(dandan to) (sekai no kokoro) (isamu nara)
(kore ga nihon no) (osamari to naru)                           4

Step by step, if the world’s mind become spirited,

this is Nihon’s settling to occur.

*nihon is where the people have a understanding of God’s teaching of the soul, pure mind, and God’s guidance. This is why we must spread the truths to everyone, so they can be nihon, and begin to settle their minds

(imamade wa) (nani yono koto mo) (wakari nai)
(korekara mieru) (fushigi aizu ga)                                  5

Until now, what kind of matters you have not understood.

From now on, you will see miraculous signs.

*these miraculous signs are God’s guidance

(kono mono ni) (muri ni koi towa) (yuu de nashi)
(Tsukikuru naraga) (itsu made mo yoshi)                   6

This person, by force to come to say, I do not.

But if you come to God, forever it will be good.

(korekara wa) (mizu ni tatoete) (hanashi suru)
(sumu to nigori de) (satori toru nari)                           7

From now on, using the metaphor of water I shall speak. By clear and muddy, you will come to understand.

*pure mind and dust or negative thoughts in the mind

(shinjitsu ni) (Kami no kokoro no) (sekikomi wa)
(shin no hashira o) (hayaku iretai )                               8

For the pure mind, God’s mind hastens.

The pure mind’s Pillar, I want to quickly put in.

*the Pillar is only established when the minds of most of the world is settled. This will bring upon joy to the whole world

(kono hashira) (hayaku ireyo to) (omoedomo)
(nigori no mizu de) (tokoro wakaran)                          9

This pillar quickly to put in, I am thinking. But

because of the muddy water, the location you cannot find.

*because of the dusts in the minds, the early followers cannot locate where to place the Central Pillar

(kono mizu o) (hayaku sumasuru) (moyoudate)
(suino to suna ni) (kakete sumase yo)                           10

This water quickly to clear, the preparation.

*the mind to clear of dusts to find the location of the Pillar

Filter and sand, apply it to purify it.

(kono suino) (doko ni aru ya to) (omouna yo)
(mune to kuchi to ga) (suna to suino ya)                      11

This filter, where is it, do not think.

*filter to purify the mind

The soul and the mouth are the sand and filter

*the soul like sand collects what we have done, and releases it as fate, while the mouth refers to our actions or non-actions upon what fate is delivered by the soul. By understanding both the soul and mouth, we can purify our minds.

(kono hanashi) (sumiyaka satori) (tsuita nara)
(sono mama ireru) (shin no hashira o)                         12

This talk, thoroughly if understanding comes to be.

*understanding of the soul and our actions upon what fates are delivered by the soul

That condition, to put in the pure mind’s pillar.

*when the early followers purify their minds, they can find the location of the Kanrodai

(hashira sai) (shikkari ireta) (koto naraba)
(kono yo tashikani) (osamari ga tsuku)                        13

The pillar, on the occasion is completely established. If it occurs,

this world, certainly will come to settle.

*heaven on earth

(kono hanashi) (satori bakari de) (aru hodoni)
(kore satoritara) (shouko dameshi ya)                         14

This talk, understanding only must exist. Because

*this talk about the soul, pure mind, and God’s guidance

if this is understood, the tested proof.

*tested proof is illness as guidance. No purpose of guidance if people cannot understand the guidance to help understand the soul to purify the mind

(kono you no) (ningen hajime) (moto no Kami)
(tare mo shiritaru) (mono wa arumai)                        15

These workings of humans beginning, the Origin’s God,

who knows person is nonexistent.

(doroumi no) (naka yori shugou) (oshiekake)
(sore ga dandan) (sakan naru zo ya)                            16

From within the muddy ocean, protection I taught.

From that, gradually you became to prosper!

(konotabi wa) (tasuke ichijou) (oshieru mo)
(kore mo nai koto) (hajime kakeru de)                          17

This time, single salvation I will also teach.

*teach the Youki-tsutome, pure mind (yo(u)), and soul (mune)

This, also is a nonexistent matter I will begin to place.

(imamade ni) (nai koto hajime) (kakeru no wa)
(moto koshiraeta) (Kami de aru kara)                          18

Until this time, nonexistent things to begin to place,

*place illness as guidance

because the Origin creating God exist.

(nichinichi ni) (Kami no hanashi ga) (yamayama to)
(tsukaete aredo) (toku ni tokaren)                                 19

Day by day, God’s teachings very much

I would like to attend to. I want to explain, but I cannot explain.

* because pure mind is not there of the early followers

(nani nitemo) (tokaren koto wa) (nai keredo)
(kokoro sumashite) (kiku mono wa nai)                      20

Whatever happens, non-explained things there are none.

But the settled mind, and listening person does not exist.

*no one of the early followers have purified their minds for God to teach the salvation

(sumiyaka ni) (kokoro sumashite) (kiku narable)
(yorozu no hanashi) (mina tokikikasu)                         21

You completely settle your mind, and if you listen.

*settle mind by understanding the soul, and pure mind

All of my teaching, all will be explained and informed.

*teaching to harvest members to save (Salvation Service to teach)

(kono you no) (tashika tameshi ga) (kakete aru)
(kore ni machigai) (nai to omoe yo)                              22

These workings, a definite test I have put in place.

*test on Shuji leg

This is an error, do not think.

(kono tameshi) (sumiyaka mieta) (koto naraba)

(ikana hanashi mo) (mina makoto ya de)                    23

This test is thoroughly seen. If it occurs,

*God’s guidance of illness

any of my teaching also are all true.

(nanimo kamo) (ikana hanashi mo) (toku hodoni)
(nani o yuutemo) (uso to omouna)                                 24

On any matter, any talk I will also explain. Because

whatever I say, never think of it as false.

(mee ni mien) (Kami no yuu koto) (nasu koto wa)
(nani o suru tomo) (chotto ni shiremai)                        25

By the eyes, you can’t see God’s saying about, and doing about.

*guidance not seen yet

What is going to do, certainly you do not know even a little.

(hayabaya to) (mieru hanashi de) (aru hodoni)
(kore ga tashikana) (shouko naru zo ya)                     26

Quickly are seen the talks that exist. Because

* talk about guidance as illness

this is a certainty, that the proof will occur.

*the Proof is guidance that will occur. We need to tell people about what will happen, because unless it is told, they will not know when guidance appears.

(kore o mite) (nani o kiitemo) (tanoshime yo)
(ikana hanashi mo) (mina kono douri)                         27

When this is seen, whatever you hear, you will be pleased.

Any of my teaching is all this truth.

*warnings given before guidance occurs

(hito no mono) (karitaru naraba) (ri ga iru de)
(hayaku hensai) (rei o yuu nari)                                    28

A person’s thing, if you borrow, interest you would need.

Quickly the repayment, gratitude to say, resulting in.

*If God gives you guidance (illness or disorder), Ponder and quickly return the illness with a word of thanks after pondering ones mind to purify the mind

(ko no yonaki) (omou kokoro wa) (chigau de na)
(ko ga nakude nai) (Kami no kudoki ya)                     29

The child’s crying, the mind that thinks is wrong.

The child is not crying, it is God’s guidance.

*it is not the child’s guidance, but it is directed to the parents.

(hayabaya to) (Kami ga shirashite) (yaru hodoni)
(ikana koto demo) (shikato kikiwake)                           30

Quickly, as God desires to inform you. Because

*inform by the teachings in the Ofudesaki

whatever matters, you must clearly recognize.

*recognize to ponder one’s own mind when guidance is seen

(oyaoya no) (kokoro chigai no) (nai yoni)
(hayaku shiyan o) (suru ga yoi zo ya)                          31

My goodness, the mind mistaken for it not to be.

Quickly ponder over it. When it is done, it will be good.

*ponder one’s own mind, instead of blaming other or thinking events are wordly or by chance

(shinjitsu ni) (hito o tasukeru) (kokoro nara)
(Kami no kudoki wa) (nanimo nai zo ya)                     32

For the pure mind, to save people the mind becomes,

God’s guidance there is no need.

* your own soul will protect you when your mind is pure. Only positive fate will come from your souls

(meimei ni) (imasai yokuba) (yoki koto to)
(omou kokoro wa) (mina chigau de na)                       33

For each of you, the present good circumstance, good matter it is.

The mind that thinks this way, is all mistaken.

*one does not know what fate one’s soul contains

(degake kara) (ikana ou michi) (touritemo)
(sue no hosomichi) (miete nai kara)                              34

Because to start out, what kind of broad path, one goes through.

*this is a path where one has to take responsibility of any obstacle that appear.

The future’s narrow path, because you have not seen.

*not seen negative fates in one’s soul

(ningen wa) (azanai mono de) (aru karani)
(sue no michisuji) (sarani wakaran)                             35

Human beings are shallow beings that exist. Because

the future’s path, furthermore they cannot understand.

*do not understand karma or causality that the soul brings upon by deliverying one’s fate, that one created by acting on one’s negative thoughts

(ima no koto) (nanimo yuu dewa) (nai hodoni)
(saki no ou kuwan) (michi ga mieru de)                       36

The present matter, anything I do not say, because

the future’s broad path can be seen.

*this is a path that one takes responsibility for obstacles and illness that appears in one’s life by pondering one’s own mind for dusts. This process purifies the mind.

(ima no michi) (ikana michi demo) (nagekuna yo)
(saki no honmichi) (tanoshunde iyo)                              37

The present path, whatever path, do not grieve.

The future’s true path, take delight.

*when one understands and practices the teachings, only delight will occur

(shinjitsu ni) (tasuke ichijo no) (kokoro nara)

(nani yuwai demo) (shikato uketoru)                            38

For the pure mind, single salvation the mind becomes.

Whatever you say, I shall firmly accept.

*when one has a pure mind, God will accept it and provide blessings

(kuchi saki no) (tsuisho bakari wa) (iran mono)
(shin no kokoro ni) (makoto aru nara)                         39

By mouth, of flattery only is not a needed thing.

The truth of the mind, if the mind truly has.

*truth of the mind is the pure mind

(dandan to) (nani koto nitemo) (kono you wa)
(Kami no karada ya) (shiyan shite miyo)                    40

Step by step, what things happen. These workings, are

*these workings are illness upon the body as guidance

on God’s body. Ponder and realize it.

*the illness as guidance appears on our bodies, but since God possesses everything in the world, it makes sense to say that the illness is on God’s body

(ningen wa) (minamina Kami no) (kashimono ya)
(nanto omoute) (tsukote iru yara)                                  41

Human bodies are all God’s loan.

What thoughts are you using them?

(kotoshi niwa) (mezurashi koto o) (hajime kake)
(imamade shiranu) (koto o suru zo ya)                         42

From this year marvelous things I shall begin to address.

*show God’s blessings as illness

Until now, unknown things I shall do!

(imamade wa) (nani yono koto mo) (sekainami)
(korekara wakaru) (mune no uchi yori)                       43

Until now, what kind of occurrences were worldly common (you thought).

*suffering is normal occurrence one thought

From now on, you will understand what comes from your

soul’s interior.

*your fate comes from the soul. These occurrences are not worldly common or by chance. You have created these fates yourself. Your soul monitors your behavior

(konotabi wa) (tasuke ichijo ni) (kakaru no mo)
(waga mi no tameshi) (kakaritaru ue)                          44

This time, single salvation starting it.

*single salvation is by performing the Youki-tsutome with a pure mind

A test upon one’s body, I will begin upon.

*guidance given to help one understand the soul

(tasuke demo) (ogami kitou de) (iku de nashi)
(ukagai tatete) (iku de nakeredo)                                   45

Concerning salvation, just posturing to worship does not make it effective.

To implore wholeheartedly, it occurs although.

* by having a pure mind, it occurs.

(kono tokoro) (yorozu no koto o) (tokikikasu)
(Kami ichijou de) (mune no uchi yori)                           46

This place, everything of all matters I will teach.

Become settled with God by what comes from the soul’s interior.

*one’s mind can become pure by understanding what comes from one’s soul. One becomes one with God when this happens by purifying the mind

(wakaru you) (mune no uchi yori) (shiyan seyo)
(hito tasuketara) (waga mi tasukaru)                           47

Understand the workings. What the soul’s interior brings forth, one must ponder!

* the workings or God’s guidance of illness to purify the mind. It reminds people that their souls serve the same function to purify the mind.

Through saving others, one’s body is saved.

* When suffering occurs, place emphasis on helping others first. One needs pure mind to do this.

(takayama wa) (sekai ichiretsu) (omou you)
(mamani suredomo) (saki wa mien de)                        48

The high mountains, to the world everyone, thinking of the workings,

*the workings are illness upon the body

do as they please. But they cannot see the future.

*they cannot understand God’s guidance to help them understand what their own souls do to purify the mind. By avoiding the guidance, they are creating suffering for themselves.

(dandan to) (ooku yosetaru) (kono tachiki)
(yoboku ni naru) (mono wa nai zo ya)                         49

Step by step, many I have gathered. These standing trees,

timbers to become persons are nonexistent.

*timber are people that understand God’s teachings to purify the mind, and will eventually participate in spreading God’s teachings. They are given guidance by God

(ikana ki mo) (ooku yosete wa)( aru keredo)
(igami kagami wa)( kore wa kanawan)                       50

What kind of tree, many I have collected exist. But

those like a distorted mirror, those will not be accepted.

*distorted mirrors does not reflect a true image, as a distorted mind does not see truth. They cannot or will not understand God’s teachings due to having negative thoughts. These are kara

(sekaijuu) (mune no uchi yori) (Shinbashira)
(Kami no sekikomi) (hayaku misetai)                           51

Throughout the world, the soul’s interior depending on, the pillar of the Original mind

God hastens to quickly show it.

*when the souls of the world are pure, God will place the permanent Central pillar

(sekaijuu) (mune no uchi yori) (kono souji)
(Kami ga houke ya) (shikato mite iyo).                          52

Throughout the world, what comes from the soul’s interior. This sweeping,

*our fates come from the soul

God is the broom. Watch vigilantly.

*God gives us guidance to help us understand what our souls normally do for us. By this process, we can purify our minds, and also our own hearts. God is the broom because in our prayer we are asking God to sweep away evil from the minds and souls of other.

(korekara wa) (Kami ga omote i) (arawarete)
(yama i kakarite) (souji suru zo ya)                               53

From now on, God is thinking to be revealed.

In the mountains, I will attend and do the sweeping.

*sweep evil from the minds by placing illness as guidance after accepting our sincere prayer

(ichiretsu ni) (Kami ga souji o) (suru naraba)
(kokoro isande) (youkizukume ya)                                54

To everyone, if God sweeps,

*God to give guidance

the minds will settle. There will be nothing but timbers.

* our pure minds brings upon God’s blessings of guidance to the people we have spread the teachings to. Timbers are people who we receive due to our prayers. God places guidance on them

(nanimo kamo) (Kami ga hikiuke) (suru kara wa)
(donna koto demo) (juuyojizai o)                                   55

In all matters, because God takes control,

what kind of things, free and unlimited blessings (given).

*these are God’s blessings of guidance to help purify the mind

(konotabi wa) (uchi o osameru) (Shinbashira)
(hayaku iretai) (mizu o sumashite)                               56

This time, I will settle within. Shinbashira (Central leader),

quickly I will like to put in, by purifying the mind.

*God preparing the Central leader by weeding (purify mind)

(takayama no) (shin no hashira wa) (toujin ya)
(kore ga daiichi) (Kami no rippuku)                               57

The high mountains’ truth’s Pillar, is that of the town’s people.

*the high mountains’ leader represents the mind with dusts.

This is foremost, for the anger of God.

(kami taru wa) (dandan sekai) (mamani suru)
(Kami no zannen) (nanto omou zo)                               58

Those in high places, are gradually doing as they please to the world.

*politicians and government officials doing as they please

God’s regret, what are you thinking?

(imamade wa) (nani o yuutemo) (miete nai)
(mou konotabi wa) (seitsuu ga kita)                              59

Until now, what was said was not seen.

*God’s guidance not seen

Now this time, the time has come.

(korekara wa) (youki-zutome ni) (mata kakaru)
(nanno koto yara) (choto ni shiremai)                          60

From now on, the Timber Receiving Service look forward to it being effective.

*becomes effective Jan. 26, 1887 when Oyasama passes away

What is it about? Somewhat, you may not understand.

*not understand what the Service does. The Service is a prayer to God asking to sweep negative thoughts from people. God initiates the sweeping by placing illness to help people understand what their own souls do. These people are called youboku, yougi, or youki

(imamade mo) (shirite hanashite) (hanashi tomo)
(toite aredomo) (nanno koto yara)                                61

Until now, known talks I have certainly spoken.

It has been taught, but what is it about?

(koremade wa) (ikana hanashi o) (toita tote)
(hi ga kitaran de) (miete nai zo ya)                                62

Until now, whatever talks were explained to obtain.

*to obtain guidance

The day has not come, and has not been seen.

*God’s workings or guidance not seen

(korekara wa) (mou seitsuu ga) (kitaru kara)
(yueba sono mama) (miete kuru zo ya)                         63

From now on, now as the time has come.

As said, that by itself, you will come to see.

*will begin to see illness as God’s guidance through performing the Timbers gathering Service, bringing members to our churches to be healed from the guidance

(shikato kike) (san roku ni go no) (kureyai ni)
(mune no souji o) (Kami ga suru zo ya)                        64

Listen carefully, on the twenty fifth day in the 36 year, at dusk,

the sweeping of the soul, God will accomplish it.

*sweeping the soult is removing negative fate from the soul. God does this by placing illness as guidance, to help people understand what our own souls do. When the soul is understood, one can purify the mind. This may refer to the early followers who’s minds were swept in order to find the location of the Central Pillar.

(shiyan seyo) (nanbo sundaru) (mizu ya tote)
(doro o iretara) (nigoru koto nari)                                65

Ponder this, how much clear the water one obtains,

if you put mud into it, muddiness it will become.

*water refers to the mind. Muddiness is dust in the mind

(nigori mizu) (hayaku sumasan) (koto nitewa)
(shin no hashira no) (ireyou ga nai)                              66

The muddy water quickly to purify. Unless it occurs,

*the dust in the mind, it must be removed

the pure mind’s Pillar’s placement is not.

(hashira sai) (hayaku iretaru) (koto naraba)
(matsudai shikato) (osamari ga tsuku)                         67

The Pillar, if on occasion is quickly established,

forever certainly settlement will occur.

*heaven on earth to occur

(kono you o) (hajimeta Kami no) (shinjitsu o)
(toite kikasuru) (uso to omouna)                                    68

These workings to start are by God. The pure mind,

*these workings are God’s guidance

I will explain and let you listen. Do not think it to be false.

(imamade mo) (shingaku kouki) (aru keredo)
(moto o shiritaru) (mono wa nai zo ya)                        69

Even until now, theological spiritedness existed, but

the Origin to understand, the person does not exist.

(sono hazu ya) (doroumi naka no) (michisugara)
(shiritaru mono wa) (nai hazu no koto)                       70

So should it be, within the muddy ocean’s path,

the knowing person does not exist. This is expected.

*no one knows how human beings were created in the muddy ancient ocean

(koremade wa) (kono yo hajimete) (nai koto o)
(dandan toite) (kikasu koto nari                                     71

Up to now, this world’s beginnings nonexistent things,

step by step I will explain and inform about, resulting in.

(nanimo kamo) (nai koto bakari) (toku keredo)
(kore ni machigota) (koto a nai zo ya)                           72

In whatever matters, only nonexistent things to explain. But

in this, mistaken matters there are none.

(juu ichi ni) (ku ga nakunarite) (shin wasure)
(shougatsu nijuu) (roku niche o matsu)                        73

On the eleventh, the nine will have disappeared. The pure mind forgotten.

*on Dec. 11, 1886 Oyasama is ill. The nine may refer to the performers of the Service, excluding Oyasama

The twenty sixth day of the first month, the day I await.

* Oyasama passes away and the Youki-tsutome becomes effective Jan. 26, 1887

(kono aida) (shin mo tsukikuru) (yoku wasure)
(ninjuu soroute) (tsutome koshirae)                              74

This interval, the pure mind will have come forth, and greed forgotten.

The performers will assemble, the Service to perform.

(nichinichi ni) (Kami no kokoro no) (sekikomi wa)
(juuyojizai o) (hayaku misetai)                                       75

Day be day, God’s mind’s hastening for

free and unlimited blessings, quickly like to show.

*illness as guidance to be shown

(korekara wa) (ninjuu soroute) (tsutome suru)                                                 (kore de tashikani) (nihon osamaru)                             76

From now on, the members will assemble and perform the Service.

*on Jan. 26, 1887, the Youki-tsutome Service becomes effective

With this, certainly settle Nihon.

* God will place guidance to help the people of nihon to settle their minds.

(shinjitsu ni) (tasuke ichijo de) (aru karani)
(nanimo kowami wa) (sarani nai zo ya)                       77

For the pure mind, because single salvation exist.

Anything to fear, furthermore does not exist.

(nanimo kamo) (tasuke ichijou) (tomeru nara)
(Kami no zannen) (mi ni sawari tsuku)                        78

In whatever matter, single salvation if one stops it,

God’s regret, harm to one’s body will appear.

(shiyan seyo) (yorozu tasuke no) (kono moyou)
(ningen waza to) (sarani omouna)                                79

Ponder over it. World salvation, this preparation,

human workings, furthermore do not think.

(imamade wa) (nanika yorozu ga) (wakaraide)
(mina ningen no) (kokoro bakari de)                            80

Until now, anything all was not understood.

All human’s mind only.

*one needs pure mind to understand

(korekara wa) (Kami no kokoro to) (kami taru no)
(kokoro to kokoro no) (hikiyawase suru)                     81

From now on, God’s mind and those of high position’s

mind, I will compare the minds.

(Kami ga shinjitsu) (mikanetaru yue)                           82

The same tree’s roots and branches, concerning about.

*the roots growth reflects the attainment of the pure mind. The branches reflect the state of the mind. When the roots are healthy, the branches will regenerate and bud if they should break. But when the roots are poor and small, the branches will wither and fall, and will not bud. This is the same with our bodies and minds. If our minds are pure, when frightening events appear, we know that only joy will appear from our souls, and God will take care of us. But if our minds have dusts or evil thoughts, we will be only concerned about our own bodies when frightening events occur, and ponder only selfish thoughts to attempt to gain happiness

Branches will break, and the roots will continue to grow.

(imamade wa) (kara wa erai to) (yuu taredo)
(korekara saki wa) (oreru bakari ya)                           89

Until now, kara is great that was said. But

after this, in the future they will only be broken.
